Stingray Airport

Aerial View

Architecturally, this southern Bucharest airport concept redefines the regional transit hub by balancing hyper-functional logistics with an elegant, biophilic form. The design centers on an expressive, aerodynamic main terminal featuring a prominent circular skylight and an oculus that serves as an intuitive orientation anchor for travelers. From this central node, the structure branches out into long, sweeping, organic piers that mirror aerodynamic flow lines, optimizing passenger circulation while maximizing aircraft gate efficiency. By physically detaching the primary parking infrastructure and administrative zones via a single, elevated pedestrian connector, the design preserves a clean, expansive airfield perimeter, framing the terminal as a striking architectural landmark amidst the landscape.

From an ArchViz perspective, the renderings brilliantly leverage a dramatic sunset-to-night progression to highlight the project’s scale and materiality. In the dusk visualization, the warm, low-angle horizon light rakes across the surrounding agricultural patches and forest edge, creating a stunning tonal contrast with the crisp, cool ambient skylight bouncing off the metallic roof. The nighttime shot is a masterclass in lighting hierarchy; the visualization relies on the intricate, repeating grid of internal terminal lights to illuminate the fluid geometry from within, transforming the building into a self-luminous sculpture. This internal glow is perfectly balanced by the sharp, localized warmth of the ground-level parking lots and the functional, technical lighting of the aprons and taxiways, resulting in a clean, high-fidelity image that feels immersive and grounded in reality.
